Abstract: | This paper is a review of the recent literature on the association between pregnancy and birth complications and mental diseases, particularly shizophrenia and manic depressive psychosis (bipolar disorder). Three of the four studies comparing bipolar cases with normal controls indicated a positive association of pregnancy and birth complications with bipolar disorder in adult life. |
