Abstract:This study about children born after IVF takes into account the medications used to induce ovarian superovulation. The study groups and control groups included 30 children. Children from singleton pregnancies aged 28 months or more were examined by a pediatric neurologist and a psychologist. The general cognitive index test was used. Physical and neurological findings were normal in all children except one in the group born after IVF, who had diffuse hypotonia, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and hyperactivity. The General Cognitive Index for the children in the study group and those in the control group were 102 - 13.3 and 106 - 13.5 respectively, (p=0.37). The verbal perception, motor and memory indexes were not significantly different. The authors conclude that the medications used to induce ovarian superovulation had no clinically identifiable influence and the development of these children.

Discussion:For obvious reasons we need to wait several years to have the results of studies assessing such children after puberty. See also entry 0040, 0102, 0120 and 0210.
