Abstract:This letter is inspired by the study by Churchill et al reported in Lancet 349: 7-10 (see entry 0094). The authors studied 677 first born babies born after 32 weeks gestation. There was no evidence of an association between maternal systolic blood pressure at 36 weeks of gestation and subsequent birth weight.
Keyword(s):birth weight, maternal blood pressure
Discussion:It must be noted that only women expecting their first baby were involved in this study. This was an effective way to eliminate the issue of parity.
