Abstract: | The authors examined the relationship between the dates of births of all schizophrenic patients (14,830) admitted to hospital for the first time in England and Wales between 1970 and 1979 and the occurrence on influenza epidemics between 1939 and 1960. The results indicate that exposure to influenza epidemics between the third and seventh month of fetal life is associated with an increased risk of schizophrenia in adult life. |
